We are thrilled to announce that Christopher Wassenaar, Chief Compliance Officer and General Counsel at Plooto, has been appointed to serve a three year term with Finance Canada’s Payments Consultative Committee (FinPay). Launched in 2012, FinPay is a committee made up of public and private sector stakeholders, who meet with Canada’s Department of Finance to discuss public policy issues.
FinPay defines its mandate as advising Finance Canada on developments related to public policy aspects of payments issues (e.g. competition, innovation, safety, user needs or consumer protection), discussing approaches for dealing with emerging and ongoing challenges/opportunities in the payments system, and informing government policy-making about the Canadian payments system.
“As someone who is deeply passionate about harnessing technological innovation to elevate the customer experience while safeguarding our global financial services ecosystem, I’m thrilled to join the FinPay committee. The financial services delivery model is rapidly transforming from the physical branch banking model to the digital experience, and I’m excited to assist with pragmatic public policy solutions to govern this change, in partnership with my industry peers and the Department of Finance,” said Christopher Wassenaar.
Wassenaar joined the Plooto team in early 2024 to oversee all legal and compliance initiatives. His extensive business acumen includes international expansion, merger integration, regulatory compliance, and payment licensing projects in the United States, Canada, the UK, and beyond. He has previously held positions as Chief Legal and Compliance Officer and various Board Secretary positions with five private equity and venture capital backed technology firms.
